Spaghetti Painting - Our Week Outdoors

Another great week of outdoor play!  I hope you enjoy!

Monday 3rd September - We went to a local stately home with family, we didn't make it in to the house but enjoyed a sunny walk in the grounds which featured lots of interesting statues including this concrete elephant.

Tuesday - We took some activities we often do inside out.  First we iced some biscuits.

Then we made some paper plate masks.  I took some paper plates and snipped out eye holes then got the boys to colour them we ended up with Iron man and Batman!

Wednesday - Lots of imaginary play in the garden all sorts of pirate and superhero adventures and some lovely playing between Bud and Little Dude.

Thursday - I saw this idea for spaghetti painting posted recently at Blogmemom and knew we had to try it out, what I didn't anticipate was how messy it would get!

Basically you make brushes by taking bundles of spaghetti, I tied mine together with rubber bands.  You then boil the spaghetti so that the 'brush' is cooked spaghetti, but the 'handle' remains uncooked.

I taped some paper down to the table and let the boys get painting.

Here's the brushes in action.

And then it started to get a bit messy!  I used really cheap spaghetti and it started to break off the 'brush' and of course the boys couldn't help but stick their hands in it (and yep I did have to reign in a bit of spaghetti throwing and eating!!).

But, the end results were really pretty and the boys really enjoyed this although a bath was definitely required!

Friday - Some nice simple stone cooking in the garden.

Then later a visit to the park followed by pizza and chocolate cake alfresco!

Saturday - We went to a local forest which had a great family trail.  The trail is filled with loads of Community Art projects including several giant wooden sculptures, a fairy garden and these great drums!

Sunday - A bit of wrestling with Hubby in the garden!

I hope you've enjoyed this weeks outdoor play.  Want to support Making Boys Men then why not 'like' our new facebook page?

I had to take it off Kids Get Arty, hope that that is ok - as kids Get Arty is specifically about linking up Art Projects that relate to a Great Artist. I do hope that that is ok, and please DO come and link it next week - when "anything goes" again!!!

    1. Thanks for the idea in the first place! And yes it did get a bit too messy, what was more crazy was trying to stop my son eating the spaghetti despite the fact it was cold and had paint on it!
